Carbohydrates serves an important part of our meal due to its role to the body system. With daily hustles of a busy lifestyle, more energy is needed to carry out activities normally, daily. Why do we need carbohydrates in the diet is very simple because it provides the body with energy to fulfill several physiological functions and for general wellbeing
They come in different sources or forms such as fruits, like guava, apples. Pears, corn, watermelon, banana, pawpaw, grains like rice, wheat, bread and potatoes and many more. They give energy to the body and they are very cheap to buy and can be consumed and accessed by everyone, both old and young people as everyone needs starchy food in their diet for a healthy nutritional diet.
Starchy foods are divided into simple sugar and complex sugar in which the simple sugar are very easy to digest and break down into glucose which is blood sugar to supply energy to the whole body. Body cells make use of glucose for cell repairs and divisions. However, complex sugars are complicated type of sugar which are not easy to digest but also provide the body with necessary fibres and nutrients for cell growth The sources of both simple and complex sugars are honey, pasta, fruits, grains, potatoes, vegetables and so many more.
When carbohydrates are taken, they easily break down to glucose which is the sugar that gives energy to the brain and the whole body . This glucose in turn changes to glycogen which is deposited in the liver for further use later on by the body . The body makes great use of the glucose which diminishes and needs to replenish more through hunger pangs.As such more carbohydrate is eaten to produce more glucose to produce more energy for the body. But sugary products like candies and sodas should be prevented.
A great carbohydrate diet is very important for every age group for both body mass and high energy content.Though its effective to know ones basal metabolic rate to consume according to the rate to be able to build up the body mass.However, sportsmen and women also need a high carbohydrate diet to gain high energy content to be able to perform well.Even those that wants to build muscle and lose weight also need carbohydrate in their food to be able to attain their desires.But those with diseases like diabetes and hypoglycemia should watch their sugar intake to control their insulin level.
Nevertheless, it is advised to consult a dietician to be on the safe side, to give advice on the basic balance of carbohydrate content to consume in accordance with ones body mass index to avoid problems like anorexia . Carbohydrates are very important in a diet to make it a balanced diet for healthy living and energy production.
