Move your body. A little goes a long way when you exercise. Take a walk on your lunch hour or after work to clear your head. Practice yoga in the morning to get your day off on the right foot or do some push-ups or sit-ups before bed at night. No matter what you do, a little activity can make a big difference in your overall health.
Change your diet. For some people, this may be harder than it sounds, but start eating real food. That means avoiding processed, pre-packaged foods that contain more preservatives than nutrition. Avoid foods fried in fats and anything made with hydrogenated oils.
Relax and rewind. If you make an effort to significantly reduce the stress in your life, you will live longer and be happier overall. Take time to be grateful for the good things in your life. When you’re up against stress, remember to focus on slowing down your breathing and you?ll begin to relax and have greater control over the situation.
Get plenty of rest. If you find that you rely on coffee or energy drinks just to get moving in the morning, you may be suffering from lack of sleep. Talk to your doctor if you are having trouble sleeping. There are many non-medicinal solutions to sleep troubles. Even if you think you are getting your 8 hours worth, a sleep study may reveal that you are not you may not be getting the recuperative sleep you need.
Butt out. Stop smoking now and you will add years to your life. Not only are the health benefits of stopping smoking endless, there are financial incentives as well. Due to the high taxes on cigarettes, you can save hundreds of dollars each year simply by kicking the habit. Lose the cigarettes and gain the health benefits, not to mention extra cash in your pocket.
Safety first. Accidents, not disease, is the leading cause of death for Americans 45 years and younger. No matter what your age is, always wear your seat belt when driving or riding in a vehicle, never drink and drive, and make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home are properly installed and are in good working order.
